A long time ago in a land far away, there lived a lonely man who fell in love. But the girl did not love him, or so she said. Certainly there were things about him that she liked. He had a very forceful nature and liked to scold her when she was naughty. He was handsome, strong and virile, a former sailor. She'd always had a passion for sailors.
But his love frightened her. It threatened her ordered world where she thought she had everything in place and nothing could change or all would come crashing down on her. So she forgot his love.
Even after the first time they came together, their bodies merging into one..the very fire they created threatened to consume her from within.
So she took the route she'd always resorted to...she ran away. She managed to stay away from him for a few days, while he destryoed all the evidence of their love. But she found her thoughts straying to him so often, her heart somewhat empty where his love had been.
She was resolved, though, to keep him out. To stay with what she knew, to stay safe; to protect her wilting heart, even if it meant sacrificing the happiness she had known with him. And she really did try to keep away.
Time after time her thoughts returned to pester her whenever she'd catch a glimpse of him or speak with one of his friends. Then the old feelings would come flooding back in, burning her, heating her, making her yearn and ache once again for his touch.
Finally, when she could stand no more, she went back to him. Cloaked in disguise, yet still he knew her. Masked in disbelief at her actions, her forward manner belied them, and still he knew her.
He welcomed her back with open arms, an open heart, bestowing all the same love, the same passion, the same heat. She reveled in his embrace, his tentative kisses, as though any touch would send her running yet again. His desire again threatened to consume her. Again they argued. Again he scolded, chided, tried to guide her. This was what she most needed, but his love, his powerful love frightened her and she ran away...
In vain.
Moments upon leaving him and her heart was breaking. She saw her ordered world begin to defragment around her, replaced by something else, something new. Light poured in all around her heart as he welcomed her back a third time, his words cautious, his arms less warm, his words less loving.
Her heart bruised as he sternly outlined how things would change. How he would indeed guide her, lead her, master her. But as he spoke her heart was filled with even more light, even more peace. She realized that this was what she wanted from him all along. A man who would not brook her nonsense, who would not allow her to run from everything that frightened her. A man who would take, and keep control of her, whether he truly loved her or he did not, as she suspected. It was most likely all a game to him, but if that was so, then she would be the fool and fall, just this once out of her comfortable little world. She would give him what he most desired and strive for once to be a good girl.
And just like that...she fell.
Now she is happy, and he is bored. But that's what happens when you get what you want, right? And when you get what you ask for, well...it doesn't always work out as planned. However, that's the moral of this tale. Love is confusing, and shattering, and also pretty darn swell. Even when or especially if it is unplanned. And what you thought you might have may not be what you have at all. So maybe you ought to just shut up and enjoy the ride.
